Prior to SA REIT legislation, there were historically two forms of listed property investment entities, namely Property Loan Stock (PLS) and Property Unit Trusts (PUTs). The complexity around PLSs and PUTs was difficult for investors to understand and caused confusion as to how income distribution was taxed.

In 2017 , Lion of Africa existed the unit trust operations to concentrate on assurance business, it operated 2 unit trusts LoA Equity Fund and loA Real Return Fund.In 2020, Asset Protection international (API) ceased operating retail unit trusts.Asset manager Allan Gray UT Manco was founded by the same person Allan Gray in 1973. |
